Life at Abberton
Days shaped by residents, not by a rota
This is a home first. People get up when they wake, eat what they fancy, and spend the day how they like, with company on hand whenever they want it.
Morning
No fixed wake-up. Breakfast when you are ready, papers and post, then gentle exercise or a walk in the grounds.
Midday
A proper cooked lunch with two choices, made in our kitchen. Family are welcome to join, just let us know.
Afternoon
Music, quizzes, gardening club, baking, visiting singers, church services and trips out along the Essex coast.
Evening
Supper, a film or cards in the lounge, then a quiet house, with staff awake and on call all night.
The house and grounds
Room to sit, walk, potter and be quiet

Bedrooms are single, many with garden or valley views, and residents are encouraged to bring furniture, pictures and anything else that makes a room theirs.
Communal rooms include a fireside lounge, a dining room, a quiet sitting room and a conservatory for tea with visitors.
Outside there are level paths, seating in the shade, raised beds for the gardening club and woodland beyond the lawn.
Visiting
Families are part of the home
There are no visiting hours. Come for lunch, take a relative into the garden, bring the dog or the grandchildren. If you live far away we will set up video calls and send photos and updates.
